About the event

TOPIC:

Securing trust in the age of LLMs

In a data-driven digital world, trust is our most valuable asset. Unfortunately, it might also be our most fragile. AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) promise remarkable opportunities while simultaneously rendering obsolete the traditional security programs designed to protect trust. From the vulnerability of prompt injection to the governance challenges of emerging standards like Model Context Protocol (MCP), the pace of change of AI is currently outstripping the frameworks designed to manage it.

Join us for a cross-disciplinary panel featuring a leading AI researcher, an AI ethicist, and a veteran cybersecurity executive as they examine what these developments mean for businesses, institutions, and society.

The discussion will investigate:

  • Why security programs based on traditional security perimeters need to be replaced.

  • How we can bridge the gap between cutting-edge academic research and the day-to-day implementation of technology controls.

  • How to architect a governance program that protects both organizational data and the people who rely on it.

Speaker: Panelists

Robert Martin is a veteran of the cybersecurity industry with over twenty-five years of executive leadership in organizations navigating risk, digital transformation, and the modern threat landscape. He has built and led cybersecurity programs for large, complex organizations, with a particular depth of experience in the healthcare sector, spanning governance, security architecture, and incident management. Today, as an executive advisor to clients across Canada, Robert is focused on the hard, practical work of building controls and guardrails to ensure AI and large language models work for people and organizations, and not against them.

Dr. Euijin (Alley) Choo is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science at University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Prior to joining U of A, she worked as an industrial researcher (postdoctoral) at Qatar Computing Research Institute, a research professor at Korea University, and a visiting assistant professor at University of Missouri, Rolla. She received her Ph.D from North Carolina State University under the supervision of Dr. Min Chi and Dr. Ting Yu in 2015. She also received her dual BS in Computer Science and Mathematics, and MS in Computer Science, at Korea University under the supervision of Dr. Heejo Lee. Her research interest sits at the intersection of security and big data analysis, focusing on AI-based cybersecurity solutions and adversarial attacks.
