About the event
Speaker: Adam White, Director of Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (AMII), University of Alberta
Topic: AI Everywhere
Abstract and Interest: Learning in humans, animals and AIs
Adam's research is focused on understanding the fundamental principles of learning in young humans, animals, and artificial agents in both simulated worlds and real industrial control applications. Adam's group is deeply passionate about good empirical practices and new methodologies to help determine if our algorithms are ready for deployment in the real world.
Implementing AI processes into real life situations, observing the results and then allowing the AI to add to its policies for analytics and decision making are key to improvements. This is particularly true in applications on how to clean water efficiently with changing conditions in the water over time, or how to generate and store electricity to avoid "brown-outs" in a response manner.
